My name is Zione Rania Banda; I am a registered nurse and currently working in the Intensive Care Unit at Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital. I hold a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing and Midwifery. Am writing to apply for a full scholarship to assist me to study Adult health nursing at Kamuzu College of Nursing in Malawi. The Kamuzu College of Nursing under the University of Malawi offers a two year master’s programme in Adult Health Nursing and I have been offered a place for the 2017-2018 academic year which starts on 15th May 2017.
As a personal goal to devote myself to find new ideas and methods in order to advance people’s health, further studying in the field of adult health gives me many reasons to have a chance to give the great contribution to the society. My principal incentive is the eagerness to help in the prevention of diseases, promotion of health and the restoration of the health of the adult population.
Malawi being a developing country; needs a healthy adults which makes up a large number of the population. The adult population is the core driving force of development as they are the ones who are involved in the economy generating activities and developmental works. With the HIV/AIDS pandemic the care for sick people has become more challenging that there is need to have more specialised professional nurses for quality deliverance of standard nursing care and evidence based practice.
I have been working in the intensive care unit for four years, and throughout this period I tremendously enjoyed my clinical experience in caring for the critically ill most of which were adults. The opportunity to care for the very sick adults strengthened my skills in applying my knowledge to properly manage individual patients, this work has been more challenging and interesting, I am determined to become skilled so that I can lead a group of researchers in the future. I am motivated and a curious person who can adapt to any situation. If presented with this opportunity I will strive as hard as I best can to represent myself and those who have granted me a chance to prove such.
